Disorganised this Fri

Big guest this month: Trevor Walker, one of the best deejays in Ottawa history (at least) and an influence on all of us. Expect him to bless the basement with a set of Trevor classics plus shit you never get to hear him play at the Merc. RECOMMENDED.

p.s. Upstairs returns. Adam can't make it any more, so it looks like Zattar and Nemo are filling in. No waiting outside!

Gun Talk

This Friday, before I head to Timekode I'm opening a show at the Avant Garde. Ben Gunning is a good dude who mixes up blued-eye soul vox, clean-ish modern soul production and an overall indie-rock dude aesthetic. The next step for a guy who used to play in Sloan-label Montrealers the Local Rabbits. Check:

Friday, Jan 27 - Ottawa
Ben Gunning

Welcome to Brazil

Beat head opinion is big on Disco D's Ski Mask Way-style track. The drum rolls, the perfectly placed drop-outs, the little one-offs. V v nice.

I know the Brazilians have to rhyme in English for mass appeal, but you've got to let them spit a few bars in their native tongue, let them shine! Second language emceeing is so stilted always. . .

Cabal, Mr. Bomba & P live in the studio (34 mb .mov)

Lighty insights

Chris Lighty of Violator Management fame and many eras of hip hop has a blog here.

Take with a grain of salt because Lighty is still very much in the industry. He's still got a lot of self-interest and can't go off and tell the best stories like Combat Jack. . .

"The most comfortable bra you ever had. . ."

John Akpata (prod. Pho) - Wearing You (MP3)

Something loop-y and low-key I made for my friend John Akpata this summer. Been watching him do this live for long time and watching the young females melt, so it was a pleasure to put something underneath. . .

My SHIT right now is Ghislain Poirier's remix of Lady Sov's "Fiddle With The Volume". Ghis flips the reggaeton drums different, proper dancehall bass and the sick little synth line that keeps coming back.

Respect to all who reached, Lanna and I had a couple hiccups in our bit but it was something special to hear a warehouse full of people we didn't know shouting "Bonjay!" Whattup to all the new friends we made and respect to Chris and Lin for killing it, a great way to do NYE.
