BKMJ

New Common video for album opener goes back to Black Cat's birthplace with Carmelo, Quentin Richardson and T.O in tow.
A nice piece, but by the end had me wondering: why is every video these days either "real" (fake) or back-in-the-day (fake)? And when did urban/streetwear marketing get so intertwined with music. I know no one makes money off CDs any more but it cheapens things a little when everyone has a customized Dunk to coincide with their new whatever.
I think it's time to tell some of the untold modern fables. Like Rexdale, Brampton and Parkdale tales. . .

Tuuune
VS
That Ty/Moonstarr lick revealed! It's John Arnold feat. Ty "Style and Pattern (Nuff Version)". The original is nice too, sounds like a remix to these ears at this point. Heavy heavy.
Know the Ledge

Pharrell rides the 2005 synth update of the Juice beat: "Can I Have It Like That" (Streams in Real and WM). This sounds like it'll be big from here to here. Skateboard P solo album out Nov 15.
Via here.

Preme. . . meet Christine

One of the more unexpected collabs of recent times: DJ Premier Hooks Up w/Christina Aguilera. Most likely either mind-blowing or horrible. . .

Synth tunes from sample dudes
New tracks from Diamond D feat. J-dilla + Nottz (MP3 3.6mb) and Common off the NBA 2k6 soundtrack "The Movement" (MP3 7mb). Both links from Spine mag.
On the subject of timeliness: how fast-paced do things move now? I sometimes think they're getting slower because people spend so much time staying up on beats, mixtapes, news, movies, etc. But for those who maintain the focus, it's crazy right now. Case in point: the Spine home page references two NOLA-related pieces already: Ski Oakenfull's "New Orleans Under Attack" and DJ Stef's mix called "George Bush Doesn't Care About Black People". Just hit record and distribution is only as long as it takes to upload. . .

Retiring
Better-than-most piece on Diplo, including his decision to call it quits from DJing. He's got a point, hard for a producer to stay creative in the studio and fully focussed in the club. . .
"I’m trying to just stop DJing, ’cause it sucks the life out of you if you’re a truly creative person," he tells me.
