Tune!

The first of a number of songs I've been working on. This one features vocalist Alanna Stuart. The dusty, the skittery drums! The 12-bit horns! The vocal!
Stay (MP3, 8.2mb)

Updates coming to the "Playing Records" listing tomorrow. Big Disorganised for Feb!

I'm not a button guy. . .

but these T.O. subway station joints are heat. Spacing magazine looks really nice too - Toronto keeps looking better and better. . .

New Rebutz out. . .

The white-label series from Tru Thoughts. A couple clips in MP3: Kelis re-rub, Yazoo - Don't Go (Nadav Ravid & Endi V Mix).

Dilla update

Looks like he's not in a coma after all, thank goodness.

Very sad news

Looks like Jay Dee/Dilla, one of the great music makers of our era, is seriously ill. Here's hoping for the best.

The Diplo Rhythm video is out

Shot in Brazil. It's a .mov (size: many k). Hey Dara Deenyo to all!

THAT Guitar

This snippet (ra) brings me back to the mid-90s. Massive Attack are highly touted in Select magazine and sounding heavy and intriguing to my still-young ears. The Portishead remix comes along. And then that guitar comes in - THAT guitar. Still sounds so nice all these years later.

Chappelle Season 2 DVD due Feb. 8

Is this the golden era one? He'll have a hard time topping it, but we'll find out soon. . .

Ayro in session. . . on the MPC

I've seen a lot of people bring the Akai MPC into the club before, but I've never seen anyone rip it like Ayro. Even getting past the music itself, his method and the fresh thinking he brings are just phenomenal. Here's Ayro at the Red Bull sessions in PR, sharing all his secrets to building a liiiiiive jam with one set of keys and one MPC: .MOV, 55mb.

Beatmaking videos

Inspiration here. A bunch of the production and beatmaking-related videos that have been circulating the net, all in one place. Up here in Ottawa, Fade to Black hasn't reached yet, so it's great fun to watch the Fade_To_Black_Studio_Sessions.WMV and trip off the creative process and Timbo cutting loose with the 4L jug.

Not many posts of ball these days. . .

because I figure if you're a real fan, you probably already know. Given Lebron's recent troubles, I had to share this recent bit on masked men throughout history through. Laimbeer is definitely the template, but bonus points to Big Z for appropriate "most resembling Hannibal Lechter" award piece.

Godfather. MJ. Prince. Live on stage. Together.

So much crazy shit in this short clip wmv. They were all in the same house and no one wrote a book about it? I like Prince and MJ in full costume, despite being "members of the crowd". . .

Upcoming Stone's Throw to check for

The latest ST email update provides fodder:

MED: "PUSH COMES TO SHOVE" RELEASE DATE: MARCH 27
MED (aka Medaphoar) is in New York with producer JUST BLAZE putting the final touches on his debut album. The first single "Push" is produced by J DILLA, who also appears on the track. Producers MADLIB and OH NO appear on the album, along with a special MC guest DIAMOND D.

KOUSHIK: "BE WITH" 12" EP & CD
A new EP and CD compilation from the man who has been dubiously described as "DJ Premier meets The Byrds" is coming in April. "Be With" is 3 songs on wax, and the CD will collect this and his two previous EP's - 14 tracks.

OH NO feat. J DILLA
"Move Part 2" 12-inch single coming soon

MADVILLAINY | FOUR TET & MF DOOM
“Madvillainy” has made the best of 2004 lists in ROLLING STONE, SPIN, GQ and the year-end lists in ALLMUSIC, AMAZON.COM, XLR8R, PITCHFORK, and several other villainous publications. Props to Exclaim Magazine for naming "Madvillainy" #1 record of the year. Last year we mentioned the MADVILLAIN REMIXES by Four Tet and Koushik. These two EP's were delayed to make way for a last-minute production collab between Four Tet and MF Doom on a “Rhinestone Cowboy” remake. The Madvillainy Remixes will be released in 2005.

MP Frees

South Philly's toughest jew next to Scott Storch, Beanie Sigel One Shot Deal produced by RZA.

Weird-but-good MF DOOM-featuring cut from a cat called Daedelus: Impending Doom.

And the current holy grail (if you've been reading phorilla for the past bit), Amerie's One Thing. Still sounds so beautiful - do your thing Rich!

Consumption junction

A couple quick ones: the wallet made from money (sequel to Money Mark's "duct tape wallet" maybe?) and Preshrunk, a blog dedicated to one dude's (pretty good) take on hot t-shirts.
